FACTS

The Bolognese dog (supposedly August III's favourite animal) was first mentioned in February 1735.

It is included in a list of completed animal figures for the Japanese Palace.

Like many of Kaendler's animal figures, the sculpture is characterised by its strong, natural expression.

The wavy, moving strands of fur. The large, inquisitive eyes and, above all, the open mouth with carefully crafted details such as the tongue, palate and teeth make the dog appear lifelike and almost alive.
