In the middle of the green hotel park you will find a highlight of the Schindelbruch cuisine: the restaurant "Jagdhaus Holzeule". The rustic taproom of the historic half-timbered house offers an atmospheric contrast to the main house - a beautiful stage for regional specialties and exclusive BBQs on the adjacent summer terrace.
The Josephskreuz has been attracting visitors to the Großer Auerberg since 1834. However, the wooden structure created by Karl Friedrich Schinkel was struck by lightning in 1880 and burned down almost completely. In 1896, the new double cross is erected as an iron structure.
In 1928, the Princes of Stolberg Stolberg have a hunting lodge built halfway up the mountain - and also use preserved wooden beams from the first Joseph's Cross. The princely "Schindelbruch Hunting Lodge" gives rise to the landscape resort of the same name.
The Holzeule is regularly open from Thursday to Saturday. (subject to change).
Seating is limited, so reservations are required at our front desk or restaurant.
